Launch of massive plantation programme and Swachh Digital Telangana

Launch of Climate Change Adaptation Project during the event

IT Minister of the Government of Telangana Mr KT Rama Rao launched the “Telangana ku Haritha Haaram” at Bio-diversity Park on July 6, 2015, at Madhapur in Hyderabad. “Telangana ku Haritha Haaram” (Green Garland for Telangana). The Government of Telangana is targeting plantation of 2.3 billion trees in the next three years, of which over 10 million trees are targeted for industrial areas in the state. Embarking on the programme, GIZ, through its German consultants M/s Integration, is providing technical cooperation to the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd. (TSIIC) for undertaking plantation in the industrial areas. The technical cooperation is a part of the project on “Climate Change Adaptation for Industrial Areas”, under the umbrella of Indo-German Development Cooperation. The massive plantation being undertaken in the industrial areas, besides other environmental benefits, will help as a climate change adaptative measure.

In alignment with the Central Government’s flagship national campaigns “Digital India”, “Swachh Bharat” and “Make in India”, TSIIC and the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication of the Government of Telangana launched “Swachh Digital Telangana” Programme. The best performing industrial areas in the 1-month long industrial environmental improvement drive were given awards during the launch. The drive was a GIZ concept being undertaken for the 3rd consecutive year. 

Unveiling of integrated Landscape Plan for IP Nanakramguda

Dr. Dieter Brulez from M/s Integration (GIZ consultants) and Mr Hrishikesh Mahadev from GIZ explained about the “Climate Change Adaptation for Industrial Parks” project. An information brochure on the project was released by the IT Minister, Mr. K.T. Rao.

Dr Brulez also briefed about the outcomes of the retrofitting programme taken up by TSIIC in the Information Technology Parks in Hyderabad with coordination support from GIZ. Conversion of existing buildings to “Green Buildings” and e-waste management was a part of this retrofitting programme.  “Green Building” certificates along with incentives were handed over to those companies that had converted their buildings to “Green Buildings” as per the rating system of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). As per IGBC, over 5 million sq. feet of buildings were already converted into Green Buildings. Some of the IT Parks like Acendas have received a “platinum” rating certificate. A feasibility report on e-waste prepared by the NASSCOM Foundation was also released along with the unveiling of a poster on e-waste management for Nanakramguda.
