It is owned by the German Government and works in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ is also engaged in international education work around the globe and currently operates in more than 130 countries worldwide.

GIZ in India

For over 60 years, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working jointly with partners in India for sustainable economic, ecological, and social development. Currently, GIZ has over 330 employees in India, of whom 85 per cent are national personnel. To address India's priority of sustainable and inclusive growth, the focal areas of Indo-German cooperation currently are:
