Common Effluent Treatment Plants: Overview, Technologies and Case Examples
The IGEP Programme, which is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) of the Government of India and GIZ has “Common Effluent Treatment Plants” as one of the core topics. The overall objective of the technical cooperation on this core topic is, “To demonstrate innovative and financially sustainable solutions for Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) for wastewater treatment”.
Green Freight India Initiative report
GIZ along with its partners European Business Technology Centre (EBTC) and Clean Air Asia ( CAA) has implemented a Green Freight India Initiative that involved development of India specific toolkit for calculating emissions from the freight sector. The report of the initiative details the toolkit components, the baseline findings of the fleet, the process of identifying, designing and implementing the right intervention to increase fuel efficiency of the fleet, and finally the outcome of the intervention. The pilot intervention identified to increase fuel efficiency was eco driving training to the drivers. The intervention resulted in more than 45% improvement in fuel efficiency at the end of training period compared to the baseline results.
Planning for Sustainable Industrial Parks in India
This document showcases the successful case examples of site master planning and retrofitting of industrial parks that was taken up on pilot basis under the IGEP Programme. It provides a framework for Quality Parameters and “Green” criteria for environment-friendly planning of industrial parks, guidelines for siting of Green Industrial Parks/Estates for replicability.
ALEAP Green Industrial Park (A-GRIP), Nandigama
Under IGEP Programme, GIZ provided technical support to the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of Andhra Pradesh (ALEAP) for site master planning of the Green Industrial Park (GRIP) project at Nandigama catering to women entrepreneurs. Several aspects of environment sustainability, entrepreneurship opportunities and gender aspects were integrated into to the planning of the industrial park using the benchmarks set by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The site master plan achieved potential ‘Gold’ rating in preliminary assessment from DGNB Auditors.
Greening of GIP Jadcherla
Under IGEP Programme, GIZ provided technical support to the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) for site master planning of the Green Industrial Park (GRIP) project at Jadcherla. This encompassed an in-depth study of partially developed GIP Jadcherla and strategy to make it ‘Green; through replanning and provision of necessary infrastructure. Various thematic maps were generated pragmatically for showcasing the zoning, optimal land use, hierarchical circulation pattern, environmental infrastructure, technical infrastructure as well as social infrastructure. The site master plan achieved potential ‘Silver’ rating in preliminary assessment from DGNB Auditors.
Environment Friendly Techniques for Wastepaper Based Pulp and Paper Industries

The CapCoast project builds knowledge and strengthens the local capacities to assess, plan and respond to climate change related threats.
The project focuses on reducing the vulnerabilities of coastal communities in two severely affected Indian states Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh by reducing their exposure and sensitivity to climate risks and increasing their adaptive capacity. The visibility materials consist of project brochure, poster and fact sheets.
Capacity building involves much more though than just conducting training courses and workshops. It implies a multi level system to develop networks, institutional systems, organisations and individuals. Without awareness, without a basis for new approaches, and without better skills for using new tools and instruments in urban planning, industrial development, environmental governance, disaster preparedness and consumer protection, development for sustainability cannot be achieved.
